College Roomies from Hell, by Maritza Campos

College Roomies from Hell is a crazy and fun webcomic from the brilliant hand and mind of Maritza Campos.  It's a continuity strip that's pretty difficult to describe, but it's a fun read with a cool and very distinct art style.  Here's a description of the strip, in Maritza's own words:

"CRFH started as a simple sitcom-like strip, born from my own experiences in college.  I had (and still have) some amusing anecdotes to tell.  Of course it soon became a tale about growing up and becoming an adult.  And weirdness."

Here's also a description of Maritza's creative process, again in her own words:

"When I plan a complicated scene (say, for example, Dave being 'dry-cleaned by God') my drawings are all over the place and often inked separately.  I also often make drawings that are cut from the final versions of the strips.  I appreciate brevity and I like getting to the point of things quickly and without unnecessary delays.  Brevity and straightforwardness makes for good writing, I have always thought.  Of course this leads to some confusion too.

"It is a bit weird how I make the strips.  For a complete description, I have the detailed explanations on everything, from writing to character development to inking to computer coloring in several tutorials that can be found in the CRFH CDs I sell (plug plug!) but quickly, I have to say it's mostly an intuitive process, trial-and-error would be called method.

"Basically I have an idea and I turn it around my head until I have something I can work with.  Then the idea gets refined until the result.  Many of the dialogue is written directly in the lettering stage."

An absolutely breathtaking specialty sketch by Maritza of the CRFH girls on the beach in Hawaii.  Notice the beautiful damage to the art courtesy of the United States Post Office.  At least the creases aren't as bad as in some other pieces of art, and don't affect the image itself.  What an incredible piece, hand-colored and all.  Thanks, Maritza!
