Something Positive, by Randall "R.K." Milholland

Something Positive by R.K. Milholland is one of the most well-known webcomics on the Internet.  I enjoy the art, and the writing is great as well.  However, Something Positive is also known for R.K.'s infamous fundraiser back in 2004.  A reader complained about a lack of updates to the strip, and R.K. responded by daring his readers to donate to the strip so that he could do it full-time and not miss an update.  Although his original plan was just to hush the critics (see the full story in the FAQ on his site here), much to his surprise his readers DID respond, and in a month he earned the equivalent to his salary at the time!  Many webcomics have tried to follow suit, but not many have been able to match that incredible feat.

But back to the strip itself.  As I mentioned earlier, I do enjoy R.K.'s art and writing, and he has a fun cast of characters.  Check out an example of his great art below!

Example of Something Positive original art by R. K. Milholland.  Copyright R. K. Milholland.  This is the original art for the third and fourth panels of the daily for December 20, 2001, the second Something Positive daily.  A description of the art, in R.K.'s own words:  "The strip was entitled, "Now Meet Aubrey," and the art features the characters PeeJee, Aubrey and a street Santa. The eyes on PeeJee look different in the drawing than they do in the final because I realized I hadn't drawn a very good expression of shock on the character, so I changed them in Photoshop.  The original art spent a couple of years in a pile of drawings and bottom right hand corner is a little folded. The paper itself is a little 'dinged,' but not unpresentable.  I drew this piece the same way I draw all my comics: in photocopy blue pencil, then traced in Micron pen.  The pencil still shows (but doesn't photocopy or scan into lineart).  The art was drawn onto 8.5" by 11" multipurpose paper."

A cool Something Positive print by R. K. Milholland, which expands on the filler art for August 29, 2004.  Don't you love pony-car?  Oh, and to understand what the bunny is doing, refer to the daily for January 12, 2004.
